Muslim graveyard “Karaotkel” 1609-1962
As reported by the public association of aksakals “Ak Orda”, there are burials with the age of 300-400 years at the “Karaotkel” graveyard. There are over 100 burials with Arabic inscriptions. In accordance with some legends, there might be buried the son of Tauke Khan Sameke, senior Akmola sultan K. Kudaimendin, warriors of Bogenbay, Kabanbay, Amangeldy Imanov batyrs, B. Koschygulov mercnaht etc.
The monument represents a vast necropolis with square-shaped total area of 17125 m2. The necropolis is located within the bounds of Almaty district of the capital city and is limited along the perimeter with Gastello, Tarkhan and Manas Streets. The burials are represented in small hilly surfaces and tomb structures – kulyptas.
